The University of Pisa, founded 1343, is among the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe, with alumni such as Galilei, Volterra and Fermi. The Interdepartmental Research Centre “Enrico Piaggio”, founded in 1962 organizes interdisciplinary research among engineering, medicine, and biological scientists towards applications in Bioengineering and Robotics. Centro E. Piaggio has a longstanding experience in managing contracts with international, EC, and industrial partners, and currently hires four professional project managers. In this project, the University of Pisa is represented by the Interdepartmental Research Center ‘E. Piaggio’ and by the Laboratory of Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Experimental Pathology, Medical Biotechnologies, Infectivology and Epidemiology of the University of Pisa that comprises a multidisciplinary integrated research group with biochemists, molecular biologists, biomedical engineers, experimental and clinical psychologists and neuroscientists.

Smartex s.r.l is a limited liability company founded in 1999 with the aim of developing e-textile or textile compatible new structures. Core activity is the implementation of bio sensing cloths (T-shirts, bands, vests, etc.) able to monitor vital signals, as electrocardiograms, heart rate, respiration signal and rate, index of activity as well as biomechanical signs: gesture and posture recognition. Smartex has also gained experience in design and implementation of textile solutions for biochemical sensing and body liquid handling. Smartex own the intellectual property and the technical knowledge to implement textile sensing, acquisition and parameters extrapolation in different applications from sport to clinical rehabilitation. The staff is composed by electronic engineers and physicists.

CSEM, Centre Suisse d’ Electronique et de Microtechnique (Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology), founded in 1984, is a private research and development centre, which has specialized in microtechnology, nanotechnology, microelectronics, systems engineering and communications technologies. It offers its customers and industry partners tailor made innovative solutions based on its technological expertise from applied research. Furthermore, in founding start-ups, it actively contributes to developing Switzerland as an industrial location. To date, a total of 22 such new enterprises have been launched by CSEM. Approximately 300 highly qualified and specialized employees from various scientific and technical disciplines work for CSEM in Neuchâtel and the two centres in Zurich and Alpnach. The National Centre for Sensor Research is a world renowned, large-scale, multidisciplinary research facility focused on the science and applications of chemical sensors and biosensors. Established in 1999, the centre now boasts 26 Principal Investigator Members from the Faculty of Science and Health at Dublin City University. The membership also includes over 80 Senior Researchers and almost 120 Post-graduate Students, supported by an administrative team of sixteen. A key feature of the NCSR is the multidisciplinary composition of the research team, which includes physicists, chemists, biotechnologists and engineers. Located at the main entrance of Dublin City University, the NCSR is based in ca. 3,200 sq meter custom-designed buildings with clean-rooms, synthetic and biohazard facilities, application-specific project laboratories and support units. The multidisciplinary centre has affiliated staff drawn from Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Engineering. Several large-Scale research initiatives are hosted in the Centre, including the BioDiagnostics Institute (BDI), the Centre for Bioanalytical Sciences (CBAS), CLARITY (Sensor Networks), SmartCoast and Beaufort (both environmental Sensing).

Life Supporting Technologies (LifeSTech) is a research, development and innovation group, part of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid-UPM (Technical University of Madrid). Its activities are devoted to the design, development and evaluation of ICT based services and applications, for the creation and promotion of new ideas, methods and technological solutions throughout the value chain of e-Health and e-Inclusion related organisations. LifeSTech is one of the main Spanish research groups in the field of e-Health. It holds agreements with public and private partners in several R&D areas (Siemens Spain, Vodafone Spain, Vodafone Group, Medtronic Spain, Philips and Telefonica, among others). The main group skills include consultancy, design, development and evaluation of ICT applied to Health, Ambient Intelligence, Technological Architecture, Business Process Engineering, and System Development and Integration.

FORENAP is a leader in the field of Neurosciences and overall brain diseases research in France. It is composed of 2 entities: FORENAP R&D: a Research Institute in Neurosciences (about 30 people) and FORENAP PHARMA: a leading International Contract Research Organization specialised in early Drug Development and providing preclinical and clinical services (about 130 people). FORENAP is located in Rouffach, France. Our activity is focused on fundamental and applied research on central nervous system (CNS) and relies on our unique technical platform that enable access to: wake EEG, sleep EEG, a whole head 148 sensors magnetoencephalography, 3 tesla functional magnetic resonance, driving simulators, computerised neurocognitive tests, body Sway, pupillometry as well as ECG. FORENAP has also an extensive experience in physiological signals measurement and analysis as well as an expertise in data fusion. It possesses a large database of physiological parameter measurements from healthy volunteers, aged 20-65 years, that were investigated with at least one of the aforementioned technique before or during a drug clinical trial.

The INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale: National Institute of Health and Medical Research) unit 666 in Strasbourg develops research activities related to the hypothesis that schizophrenia is a disorder of the capacities of brain integration alteration of cerebral, disorder that probably comes from alterations of brain connectivity. These research activities include both experimental and clinical works. Experimental studies work on animal models of cerebral dysconnexion. Clinical studies include clinical, neuropsychological, pharmacological, structural and functional neuroimaging, neurophysiological studies. For the clinical research there are strong links between the INSERM unit 666 and the Department of psychiatry from the University Hospital of Strasbourg (Pôle de psychiatrie et santé mentale des Hopitaux Universitaires de Strasbourg): these links include the clinicians expert in the field of schizophrenia and more recently those of the field of bipolar disorders.

The family enterprise was founded in 1991 by Ing. Gerhard W. Meyer. MEYTEC GmbH Informationssysteme which belongs to the GSM group is an IT-TC system integrator operating throughout Europe. Originally it assembled electronic communication systems on base of telephony. Its expansion grounds on introduction of internet technologies and PC-based information systems. Video surveillance produced a further push for the enterprise. Hardware from all over the world is selected and tested to fit the customer requests. The head office of MEYTEC GmbH Informationssysteme is located in Seefeld/Brandenburg, a few kilometres away from the German capital Berlin. Further offices reside in Berlin, Munich, Liederbach near Frankfurt and Moeser near Magdeburg.

The Division of Adult Psychiatry (Department of Psychiatry) is part of both the Geneva University Hospitals and the Academic Department of Psychiatry at the University of Geneva. It is organized in 4 geographical sectors, each of them with hospital units, a crisis unit in town and/or an outpatient facility. In addition, 5 specific outpatient programs (including a Depression program and a Bipolar program) and 2 specialized hospital units are available to patients from the four sectors. Missions of the division are at the clinical, teaching and research levels. This large division (more than 80 positions of junior and senior psychiatrists) includes several research groups and networks. The personnel participate in a collaborative network in the field of clinics (phenomenology, instruments), neurobiology (serum BDNF, HPA axis) and treatment (psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic) of mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorders).
