Impact on quality of life

To develop a personalized health care system based on ICT solutions for persons suffering from bipolar disorders and to implement treatment models based on closed-loop approaches in order to reduce the frequency of hospitalization (by improving the detection and prevention) and the length of hospitalization (by an early prediction of treatment failure or success) for the patients. The goal of PSYCHE Project is thus to propose a model for a daily and night monitoring of the bipolar patients with a naturalistic approach, by designing an integrated platform provided with software tools and technologies for tele-care. This support will be provided by connecting in-hospital care of the acute syndrome with out-of-hospital follow-up by patient/family caregiver monitoring, associated with supervised care, and with a direct linkage with specialist’s advising.

This approach implies:

a) the effort to put together, for the first time, clinical expert advise on drawing personalized strategies of follow-up for the individual patient,

b) drawing strategies of graduated use of paramedic and clinical staff, on the basis of clinical severity, c) up-to-date ICT, applied to clinical informatics, wearable and portable devices for acquiring, monitoring and communicating physiological parameters, behavioral and mood correlated indexes (biochemical markers, voice analysis etc) d) brain functional studies to be performed under specific experimental protocols in order to correlate central measures with the clinical assessment, and the previously mentioned parameters e) comparison with usual follow-up strategies.
